Powers of Science, Powers of State (27889) | Dr. Anat Leibler

This seminar whishes to explore the relationship between state institutions and scientific practices, while emphasizing the constitutive relationship between the two. The course will review the different approaches in the STS literature discussing the separation between knowledge and power. We will examine how “Interests” in the STS literature became a substitution for complex concepts such as state, politics, society and culture. The purpose of the course is to look at studies that explore the role of scientific practices in creating the state as a distinctive, rational and autonomous entity.
